Honourable stay for employees of the former "Deutschen Reichsbahn"

Alexisbad in the Selke Valley has always been a popular health resort and recreational opportunity. Remoteness, heavenly tranquillity, untouched nature - these are the advantages that I remember from my childhood and that the town still offers its guests today.
In the style of the Bohemian spas (Czech Republic), Alexisbad invites you to stroll through the town and small spa park. An ice cream, coffee or cake can be enjoyed on the roof of the Hotel Morada, for example - with a great view of the town and nature (former holiday home of the GDR Ministry of the Interior).
Wonderfully secluded - somehow it feels like the end of the world - combined with the romantic hiking trails in the surrounding area and the Selke Valley Railway, Alexisbad is a dream destination in the Harz Mountains for forest and nature lovers.
The great times of princely existence and the holiday homes of some GDR companies and ministries are over. But the stories of that time still linger in the face of the spa architecture.
The former holiday residence for employees of the "Deutsche Reichsbahn" was one of the places where the recreation flourished. Taken over in 1949, it fell to the German Federal Railway after the fall of the Berlin Wall. As in many places, the business was not worthwhile (see Viktorshöhe) and the property was closed to visitors at the end of the 1990s. The empty lodging house with its towering spires welcomes guests to Alexisbad in its ageing beauty. In front of it rests the DDR-style service building. Time seems to have stood still. In the building and the small adjoining premises, the remains bear witness to its former use.
In addition, the Ministry for State Security (Stasi) (opposite the railway station) and the Ministry of the Interior (today's Hotel Moroda), the district leadership of the former party SED in Halle ran guest and holiday homes for their employees.
