Legendary mountain pass and natural paradise

The majestic mountain range of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe runs through several countries. The largest part is located in Slovakia and Rumania.

When visiting Romania, the Transfagarasan Highway (between Curtea de Arges (1) and Cartisoara) is praised as legendary.
Alongside the Transalpine High Road, it is also one of the most beautiful pass crossings.

It is correspondingly very popular with travellers. At holiday times, when locals and foreigners explore this fabulous destination, you should be prepared for a lot of traffic. It's not just the well-maintained roads that tempt travellers to take a journey. It is also the splendour of nature that beckons. The high mountains bring all their beauty, mysticism and dangerous moments into the spotlight:
Dense forests - green meadows - clear water - rich flora and fauna - breathtaking mountain scenery and panoramic views of the valley. Be prepared for the presence of bears, which will set your emotional world in turmoil.
On the Wallachia side, the River Arges meanders along the serpentines, branches out into the open wilderness, pours into a large waterfall, forms and flows through the Lacul Vidraru reservoir (on map above: (2)) - combined with all kinds of leisure activities.
The fresh mountain water and beautiful surroundings invite you to take a break, hike and camp. There are plenty of opportunities.
Souvenirs and refreshments await you along the way.
Once at the summit, the glacial lake Balea presents itself in all its splendour. In the high season, it is teeming with tourists who don't want to miss out on the spectacular view of the Transylvanian valley.
The stay for young and old is sweetened by all kinds of treats at the kiosks and adventure games. The Turkish coffee, for example, impresses with its aroma and fine flavour.
An old cable car runs from Transylvania to the top of the mountain, offering especially in winter the only opportunity for an expedition into the mountains.
