An all-round talent inspires

«No one is born a master», they say. It takes skill, diligence, practice, endurance, accuracy... and sometimes a bit of hardship to be inventive. But the most important thing is passion.

My mum possesses all of this. She has been allways creative and innovative for as long as I can remember. She reads, sews, knits, cooks, bakes, does handicrafts, takes photos... and loves to try out new things.

Whether it was the cakes or Christmas stollen that she gave us when we went to university and made us feel at home, whether it was the home-made jam or the home-sewn clothes and accessories - it was always something special and expressed an enthusiastic ‘yummy’ or ‘urst’ (the East German word of the time stands for ‘very good’, ‘cool’ or ‘wow’).

Even as a child, the times - and especially her mother - demanded that she pick up a needle and thread and mend things. The GDR brought the do-it-yourself, subsistence and repair mentality to flourish. Resources and materials were scarce, department stores or so called "Exquisite" shops provided clothing with little variety or at high prices, and the cuts hardly fitted.

For example, we ironed the wrapping paper, especially that of gifts from our relatives in West Germany, so that we could use it again.

Sometimes we bought the "Pramo", sometimes the "Sibylle" (fashion magazines of the GDR) at the kiosk. But above all we tried to get the "Burda" magazine secretely, and the basis for fashionable clothing or a different recipe was laid. We were particularly fascinated by Burda, with its modern, well-fitting cuts and its view into the international fashion world. Normally, the western fashion only spilled over to us 1-2 years later.

My mum was continually inspired and didn't just use her wealth of ideas for herself. Even today.

Handbags, Accessoires & Co

She sews and creates welcome gifts for newborns or welcome presents for school starters (e.g. teddy bears) together with friends in her home town.

Her bag sets, for example, are perfect for travelling, for work, for a laptop or for shopping and stand out in design. She uses fabrics or patterns from "Stenzo". Patterns are modified and adapted to her own needs or those of her customers. A visit to her studio shows how enthusiastically she immerses herself in her element.

I also love to use her self-created and sewn travel accessories and toiletry bags, which are particularly popular in their various sizes and formats and adorn my luggage with their design.
