Christmas Market in a picturesque chateau scenery
The Christmas market takes place in the alleyways of the enchanting old town every year from the 2nd to 3rd weekend in Advent. In the medieval ambience, especially around the castle and in the castle courtyard, the Christmas market enchants as probably one of the most romantic in Saxony. A view over the historic town reveals why. Its iconic landmark (the castle ensemble) sits majestically on the hill, with the wintry town and its little houses lying idyllically at its feet. It is no coincidence that Schwarzenberg is also known as the “Pearl of the Ore Mountains”.

The elevated lift from the Hammer car park makes it easy to overcome the height difference. Once at the top, the castle presents itself with the baroque St George's Church, whose richly decorated interior will amaze you. On the other side, the Christmas mountain invites visitors to take a walk along typical Erzgebirge scenes. One of the oldest large pyramids forms the conclusion and entrance to the market above.
In the old town centre, the Meissen porcelain glockenspiel plays at the fountain, which provides a stage for the little houses and their stories during Advent. Not far away, 12 colourful reliefs tell the story of Schwarzenberg's historical development.
The highlight is the miners' parade (Bergparade) on the 3rd weekend in Advent. However, the Christmas market also provides some special attractions before that: the fairytale parade or events on the stage. Fans of model trains will favour the exhibition in the now disused railway tunnel. The guilds from Ore Mountain present their craftsmanship.

A visit to Schwarzenberg (in winter or summer) is a chance to discover some more special sights:
- Knowledge-enriching mining trails.
- The art nouveau Ratskeller.
- Beautiful parks and views of the countryside
- The wildlife park and, above all, the “Small Ore Mountains” (Klein-Erzgebirge) Waschleithe, whose miniature houses and mines fascinated me even as a child.
- The largest tin chamber in Europe in Pöhla.
