The Pigeon Lady

A moment of peace and connection

It was during a visit to Curtea de Arges on the way to the Carpathians. At the church… a moment of silence… a glance at the park bench… A special kind of apparition appears: The pigeon lady

An old mother sits alone on the bench in her dark dress. In her left arm she holds a scuffed umbrella that serves as protection from the sun. It is hot. Grey pigeons flutter around her, seemingly seeking her company. Some hop onto her arm, others onto her lap, the next stroll and peck gently at her feet. A lively hustle and bustle surrounds the old woman.

She is holding breadcrumbs in her hands - a small feast for the "rats with wings". Everyone seems to have arranged to meet up, probably not for the first time. They seem to know and like each other. She calmly and serenely feeds her pigeons, whose proximity brings a look of contentment to her face. The world around her is forgotten. Completely in the here and now. She is obviously enjoying the moment.

The dove symbolises peace, love, loyalty. That is what the event radiates.

What a beautiful sight! Such a beautiful moment!
